What would you do if you found a homeless person sleeping right outside your door one morning?

That’s exactly what happened one recent Sunday morning at Beth Sholom Temple.  When folks started arriving for Religious School and Bagel Bar, they found a woman sleeping right outside our door on the Plantation Drive side.

Our community acted like one would want a Jewish community to react.  Two members, Anna L, who works for RACSB, and Robin J, who is a nurse, calmly took care of her with compassionate professionalism, first making sure she wasn’t in the middle of a health crisis  and then  treated her as a human being in need of help and kindness.   Liz J notified local emergency services who shortly arrived to help.  Tiina R donated a coat and a blanket to keep her warm.   Jim S provided  warm food and hot coffee while the Sheriff’s office arranged proper care.

B’Tzelem Elohim – we are all created in God’s image --  and when one of us is in need of help we are commanded to help.  Anna, Robin, Liz, Tiina and Jim acted in accordance with Judaism’s highest teachings,  and the world is a just a little better place because of their actions.
